Verbena bonariensis 'Lollipop'
Verbena bonariensis 'Lollipop' is a dwarf version of the much loved Verbena bonarienses getting to only 60cm in height - I love it in containers with Stipa tenuissima and Erigeron karvinskianus. It has the same small purple flowers and rough grey / green leaves and flowers through mid to late summer months and well into the autumn. It has nectar rich flowers that are great for bees, butterflies and moths and their seeds are loved by some birds.
Common Name
Argentinian Vervain
Height and Spread
0.60m x 0.60m
Cultivation
Grow in full sun, moist but well drained soil, in a sheltered spot to protect from really harsh winter conditions. Mulching with well rotten manure or compost will protect its roots during winter.
Propagation can be done by soft wood cuttings in early summer and it will self seed - but may not come true.
Leave seeds on the plant until late winter if you can to bring structure to your garden and a home to hibernating wildlife.
